Tracy - It is like sangria. And that is what started this. I had some sangria at a friends house a while back and loved it. Then I made a big batch up, cutting up oranges, lemons and limes, and it was fun to make but time consuming. But the lemonade and wine method, for a quick and cool drink on a hot day, which it was here today, sure hits the spot.
Sea Nile - I'm not big on red wine either, the lemonade really cuts the bite of it. Plus, you could add more lemonade to less wine and have it lighter. But for me the 1/2 & 1/2 method is working pretty good.

Easy sangria:
1 bottle (750ml) red wine
1 1/2 cups of rum (gold or dark or both (or more, either in the pitcher or taken straight from the bottle))
1/2 cup sugar
1 oz (shot glass) lime juice
1 oz lemon juice
1 cup orange juice
Stir, drink, enjoy.
As long as you keep the proportions OK in your head, you can make a glass at a tie. I do it in a pint glass and sometimes omit the sugar and maybe add more OJ to compensate for the lack of sweetness.
At our house, we've decided that it's the summer of Sangria.
