We always stay at the Marriott, this year we're staying the first and last night. We like the hotel and it's our way of kicking off our vacation and this year to extend it one more day.
Soarin' with the eagles all week long, and this is all that we've learned about living - VACATION!

My 2 go-to places are the Green Iguana and the Island View Guest House. Love them both and have used them MANY times just for that reason. Island View has an on-site restaurant but is a cab ride downtown while the GE is walking distance to downtown.

Funny, I was just shopping for a one night stay over on STT for our February trip.

In the past, we stayed at both the Green Iguana and the Marriott (main hotel, not the Morningstar units on the beach).

The Green Iguana is very clean and as mentioned, walking distance to downtown. For the price, it was a good value. Its an older, motel-style set up. When we were there, the managers told to us to take a cab home after dinner for safety. (and they were very serious about it, not just a suggestion for our comfort) Management had a selection of snacks and beverages for purchase and I thought that was a nice touch. We walked down the 99 Stairs and had breakfast at Bumpy's early the next morning and enjoyed watching the harbor area come alive.

Hubby is platinum with Marriott and we stayed on points for our last STJ trip, which was in the summer. I have stayed at nicer Marriotts but it was fine for one night. Our room needed a redo and the resort was so busy, service suffered a bit. We liked the balcony views and had take-away coffee and pastries from the lobby shop for breakfast. The resort has a nicely stocked market for snacks, sandwiches and beverages including beer and wine at resort prices.

There is a very good restaurant down on the beach and you can take the resort shuttle to and from. When I looked at rates for our Feb trip, no points stays were available (no surprise) and the standard room rates were almost $600 per night for our date.

We are staying at Secret Harbor instead.

The one place I can tell you ...not to stay... is Windward Passage. We made that mistake in July . Wish I had chosen one of the other places that has been mentioned by the great people on here ! :(

And i forgot to mention that the Island View Guest house has an honor bar. Pour or mix own drinks etc and then just keep your own tally or mark on the chalk board when checking out.
