Just back from STT and STJ - 2/28-3/5

Post by RickG »

Sweet Christine stayed with Capt. Jay and Deb at their Mahogany Run condo. We spent our first full day on St. John via the people ferry. Cruz Bay has come a long way in the six months since Irma. It is obvious that a huge amount of work has gone into recovery and there is a lot more work to do.

First impression of STJ? It is very ready for visitors. Maybe more ready for visitors than for residents. Many residents and villa owners we spoke with are six months or more from being back to normal. Many insurance claims have not yet been paid. There is enough inventory to meet the demand of visitors for now. I am concerned whether there is enough long-term rentals for the required number of service industry staff.

We ran into Kirk from the forum at Cruz Bay Landing. It was great to catch up! He is busy this year after having a great year last year with his painting and construction work. It was great to catch up with Boo at the CBL. She and Wade have a lot of work to do with a house that sounds pretty much destroyed. Cruz Bay Todd's buddy Kenny had lunch there that day.

We caught up with EagleRayLover Leslie from the Coral Bay side for a Sunday Fun Day at Water Island. Leslie and Steve have a very cool thing going at Pelican Beach in Coral Bay, taking reservations starting October. Water access! http://pelicanbeachvi.com

We caught up with Tracey in WI and husband Juice at the airport. Their new villa is ready for visitors, Into the Mystic. I know this property from previous visits and it has an awesome setting and easy access. I am certain it will be a favorite. http://www.intothemysticvi.com

We are definitely back for Halloween with Big Red and Becky. I am counting ~30 forumites on island for that week. Fun!

Cheers, RickG

Thanks Rick. Always good to to hear about the islands recovery. Other than Warfside Village not being in operation and many Coral Bay restaurants not open did you find that there were any services that were lacking on island?

Very cool, Rick, thanks for the info...BTW, I met Leslie and Steve a while back and always lauded and envied them for making the move to paradise. And that Pelican Beach villa looks awesome. How are they associated with it? We'll be staying in a villa within walking distance of that beach in June and will try to look them up.

Best,

Leslie and Steve are the onsite managers of http://pelicanbeachvi.com . With their knowledge of the islands, snorkeling spots and underwater photography they will be amazing hosts. Not to mention they are awesome people. The villa has an awesome setting.

Thanks, Rick...great to know, we'll look them up in June...and I like the concept behind Pelican Beach villa. It's kind of like a private all-inclusive resort for two. And I love that they have a boat that they can just take you on a BVI trip from their front door. That's really cool.

Thanks for taking the time to post. It was great to hear first hand from a long time visitor how things are going.
Did you hear anything about Sogos? We loved their food and always enjoyed talking to the couple that owned it.
So glad to hear Steve and Leslie are back on their beloved island.

We haven't heard anything about Sogo's. It's worth a phone call. The last phone number I had for them was 340-779-4404.
