The Beach Bar does an occasional event in the sand in front of the Bar. Regarding the bar/ restaurant being open for customers I have seen it posted that they will not be ready for a few months yet... possibly longer.

Recent photos made it look like an inactive construction site. Doubtful they will be re-opening any time soon unless things really pick up at a non-island pace...

Landlord / insurance issues persist. It would be interesting to hear the particulars.

I can only imagine. A house around the corner had a fire start in the garage from some heating/grow lamps, and it spread pretty significantly into the house - the volunteer FD really struggled to contain it. The house was unlivable after the fire and eventually the interior was gutted and re-built, and the whole process took over 9 months (!) Maybe the homeowners had really limited Additional Living Expenses (ALE) coverage, so the carrier wasn't $ motivated to move things along?

Likewise, with the Beach Bar, Joe's Rum Hut, etc., I imagine that having limited or no commercial Business Interruption coverage could also slow things down, as well the insurance carriers for the landlord and tenants pointing fingers at each other over who will pay how much for what physical damage.

In the meantime, all of the affected small business owners are hung out to dry...

Definitely sucks...especially when you consider that the Beach Bar could probably set up shop temporarily on the beach in front of their old spot with a simple tent, a few folding tables, some chairs and blender run off a car battery and people would still flock there in droves.

High Tide is open. They added cushions to their bar stools and they are much more comfortable. They have Adirondack chairs on the beach. Worked nicely for us this month.

Hi all,

Just a few quick clarifications...

No landlord issues at Wharfside at all. In fact, he is working with the Beach Bar on the rebuild.

Wharfside did have business interruption insurance.

Beach Bar had a ton of structural damage, so they can't open the bar or kitchen until that's fixed. They cannot run a bar permanently of the beach.

Reed and Sherry, the owners, were cleaning out the kitchen earlier today. Not sure if that's visiblefrom the web cam.

Hope this helps!

Eliton, it seems like it will be a while before the Beach Bar, Joe's Rum Hut, etc. will be back up and running. See Jenn's recent post below.....
