Beach Sweep

Post by Sandy Bottoms »

Hi All, we are going back in March after taking last year off to give St. John time to heal. We are thinking of bringing gloves and trash bags when we go to beaches/hiking to pick up debris. Is this a needed activity? Silly idea? What else could we bring from the mainland to donate - we heard Carolina Corral could use duct tape as it is very expensive there. How can we make the greatest positive impact of our stay on the island that has stole our heart years ago? Thanks for your ideas!

Get Trashed St. John is a facebook group that organized pickups and recycling.

It is never a bad idea to clean a beach or any where else for that matter. Unfortunately, there are those who make such effort necessary but we have been doing it every trip we make. Heck, I even do it on the Galveston beaches back home. You'll always see the remnants of someones ashtray or liquid refreshment and if by some miracle beachgoers are not guilty, you will come across trash washing ashore.
Do what you can when you can. Little steps but every one helps.
