Hmmm....I seem to be the only one posting cocktails lately. What does that mean? :? :P

Anyway, here is a test drive from last night. I was thinking about serving this at my super bowl party. It is a quasi-margarita. It's made with limeade concentrate, lager-style beer (I used heineken light), and tequila. I tried this out because I was thinking of my inlaws. They like margaritas, but not my from scratch ones. They say they are too acidic, what with all the fresh lime juice.

John gave it a thumbs up, but I was kind of on the fence about it. I think I am just going to go out and get the premixed Jose Cuervo stuff that I know they drink. Picture:

You should give them one of our "knickers off" margaritas - 1st sip is kind of a wow this is different moment then they are addictive - it sure will loosen them up :)

If you like some very decent mix, see if any of your local shops have some Bone Daddy's. Some of the best I've ever had. Doesn't have the Cuervo aftertaste.

Pia, believe me, getting them to loosen up is not the issue. They are HUGE Patriots fans--they even have their living room decorated completely Patriots, and they have a Patriots Christmas tree, among other things. They are going to be on the verge of hysteria when they get here. If anything, I am going to have to get them to calm down!

Thanks for the tip Promoguy, I'll see what I can find at the store this morning (assuming I can even get inside!).

Hi Becky---Love all your wonderful cocktail ideas! Today is the first time I've checked out the off-topic forum---you guys have been busy over here! Sorry about the Patriots---hope the margaritas absorbed some of the pain.

Blue-Pom Mojito (Created by my wonderful hubby. Yep, he's a keeper!)
<a href="http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/27 ... XwYq"><img src="http://inlinethumb36.webshots.com/5603/ ... 425Q85.jpg" alt="Blue-Pom Mojito"></a><img src="http://counters.gigya.com/wildfire/CIMP ... Q9Jm49.jpg">

Muddle 6 mint leaves, 6 blueberries, 1/8 of a lime, and 2 tsp sugar in a short glass. Fill with crushed ice; add rum (make it as strong as you like), pomegranate juice, and a bit of club soda. Mix and enjoy!

I love your glass. If I had more space I would have glasses and dishes coming out my ears!

Haven't tried this yet....but looks like a yummy twist on a rum & coke :)

Pirate's Last Call

4 maraschino cherries
2 teaspoons white sugar
1 (1.5 fluid ounce) jigger rum (dark or light)
1 cup ice cubes
1 cup cherry vanilla carbonated cola

Place the cherries and sugar in the bottom of a 12 ounce glass, and mash with a spoon or muddler. Add the rum and ice. Pour in the soda, stir, and serve.

Here's one from a weekend or two ago. It is a mix of muddled ginger, pear brandy, and calvados, shaken over lots of ice. I found it too strong, but John liked it, especially when I took all of the extra pear crisps and lined his glass with them. They were baked with cinnamon, sugar, and ginger. Adding more crisps to the glass sweetened and lightened the drink up a little bit. Plus it looked pretty. I should have taken another picture.

Here is last night's cocktail, a lychee martini. You can find the recipe on epicurious. It was nice, very delicate.

The recipe says it makes two drinks, but it's more like six. I have over half a cocktail shaker left!

Never noticed this thread before, but have to say Limoncello is great! Have to go out and buy another bottle for the freezer.

We were introduced to it on a cruise about 3 years ago. Our waiter brought a bottle of the chef's homemade Limoncello out and put 10 shot glasses out on the table after dinner one night. We finished the bottle with the chef. Fell in love with the stuff right then and there.

I was flipping through a free drink recipe magazine I picked up at the wine shop near my inlaws and found a recipe in it for a cocktail called "St. Croix Lullaby." So, of course I have to post it here! I have not tried it so can't comment on the flavor...I just liked the name.

St. Croix Lullaby

Heated milk
1 ounce courvoisier
1 ounce Cruzan single barrel rum
2 cubes demerara sugar

Crush the sugar in the bottom of a mug. Add the rum, cognac, and hot milk to taste.

Limoncello is pretty easy to make and home made is quite good. But, in Virginia you have to register with the ABC to get grain alcohol. A friend of mine tried to do it by the book and the local ABC agent said "Why don't you just go to DC and buy a half gallon?" !!!!

It's getting to be time to make another 1/2 gallon.
