Re: Centerline Road
I drove it today- someone asked me it was true there was a light now placed at it to regulate the traffic- no there is not. There is a road sign going in both directions saying one way traffic ahead and coming from Coral Bay there is one of the big light up signs that sit by the side of the road.

Re: Centerline Road
Well it's not as far in as I was thinking..but, it still looks like an accident waiting to happen, either from the road itself or from cars going around it. Whats below there?
Not sure if we will have to use this part of Centerline Rd. or not. Our villa is Aria. I was told its near the smoothie stand.
Thanks for the picture.
Re: Centerline Road
I'd like to know what's just to the left of those barriers. Are we talking about a 50 foot cliff or just a small enbankment? Might change my mind on whether or not to chance that drive.

Totally agree... and some people are just stupid!!!EagleRayLover wrote:More rain today so that is not good for the road. I
I don't want to be an alarmist at all, but it is not good at all. It seriously stinks that someone will probably have to get severely hurt before it's addressed. Thank goodness school is almost over because that would be a nightmare of nightmares. I went over last Sunday and if people aren't paying attention ( like when I was on the road), people will still try to drive two lanes deposited the signage.
Re: Centerline Road
The person to voice your concerns and to ask what is planned and when:
Department of Public Works
Commissioner: Darryl A. Smalls
St. Thomas Tel: 776-4844
St. Croix Tel: 773-1290
darryl.smalls@dpw.vi.gov
This person may be concerned as well:
Fire Department
Victor N. Browne, CPA
St. Thomas Tel: 774-7610
St. Croix Tel: 773-8050
brownev@hotmail.com
and it may be a problem for this Commissioner if it gets worse:
Territorial Emergency
Management Agency (VITEMA)
Director: Elton Lewis
St. Thomas Tel: 774-2244
St. Croix Tel: 773-2244
elewis@vitema.vi.gov
I could not find the STJ Administrator contact email --maybe another STJ poster can inform on that.
Ms. Leona Smith 340 -776-6484 - she is appointed by the Governor
Griping and speculating about the situation on a forum that is mostly read by visitors may be of some help in publicizing the problem but the local Community organizations on island need to make a concerted effort to spur DPW to action.

Agreed, but action taken by more people can't hurt! The local community does need to scream pretty loud... after all it is your safety and your economy that is the most at risk... We are just glad to help as much as possible.

Re: Centerline Road
Why do the orange divider/markers keep falling over the edge? Every new picture seems to show fewer of them up top and more of them falling down the cliff. Are people hitting them and knocking them over? Or is it because more of the road keeps washing away?
Re: Centerline Road
"Help is on the way"
I heard a report on a local FM station today (WVIQ; "Sunny 99.5", out of St. Croix) that emergency funds have been allocated to address the issue; the report included an interview with Daryl Smalls, who indicated that initial stabilization efforts would begin very shortly. Even taking into account "island time", that sounds a lot better than "No earlier than this fall". It is particularly important that the roadway be at least "stabilized" before the very heavy rains that will be likely in August and September.
All the best,
Kevin

Re: Centerline Road
Thank you Exit Zero for posting the name and contact info for the commissioner of public works. Lets all write to him (and the Governor: http://www.governordejongh.com/contact/):
Department of Public Works
Commissioner: Darryl A. Smalls
St. Thomas Tel: 776-4844
St. Croix Tel: 773-1290
darryl.smalls@dpw.vi.gov
Getting this road fixed right away -- before someone goes into that ditch or before the rains wash totally wash out the road -- is critical! Lets make sure there is a drumbeat to have this work done on an emergency basis otherwise this is a serious accident waiting to happen.
