I always miss my two (big) dogs that are left at home while we're on St.John. So for the past few years we've gone to the shelter and volunteered to walk their dogs. Last year we completely fell in love with a cute (little) island dog and ended up adopting her. :D She was small enough to be able to ride with us as a carryon!! We had her tranquilized in an effort to make the trip as easy as possible for her, but it was still quite tramatic. Imagine going from quiet life on an island, to riding on a ferry, in a taxi, and going thru airport security with a connecting flight into Providence all in one day! She is awesome, our little island dog! We're going to miss having her on the island with us this year.

Wow! What great ideas! Sheltering a dog from Animal Rescue is a total win-win. And who knows, we might also fall in love with our island pet. Thanks for all the help.

If you took me from the VI to RI I'd growl at you all winter.

We did worry that we were being unkind by taking her away from the sunny, warm island and joked that she was going to bite us when she had to go out in the snow! But when it did snow, she ran around outside quite happy, sticking her face in the snow & playing. (Phew!!)
