Yaay for Denzil Clyne..Booo for Cool Breeze Car Rental

Post by lawmom »

Just thought I'd share our recent experience in case anyone is looking for a car rental place.

Two weeks ago, we were to arrive on STJ, so I both emailed and called from home to re-confirm our Jeep Wrangler reservation with Cool Breeze. They said no problem. When we got there...no Jeep....they tried to give us a tiny little 2Wd and we refused so they gave us a Grand Vitara. Now, being very familiar with the "challenges" of our driveway (if you can call it that!) we were a bit concerned..but it was 4WD all the same, so we took it, with the understanding that we would come back the next day to get our Jeep. Well, ends up the tires were so bald that we could not even make it up the driveway. My poor husband had to lug all our luggage up that treacherous path, and made several trips....in the dark. We had to park it at the very bottom and leave it for the night. When we took it in the next morning (per their suggestion) to exchange, our Jeep was still not there. The guy at Cool Breeze did not give a care about any of it. He said "it's like if you go to a retaurant and they are out of steak." Of course, if I had reserved a steak, and called to confirm my steak and emailed to confirm my steak (all prior to my arrival), and each time, my steak was confirmed....then I want my *@!#^& steak! We let them keep their vehicle and looked elsewhere for the remainder of our stay. St. John car rental was out of Jeeps and so we walked down to Denzil Clyne. They hooked us up with a Wrangler on the spot, brand new. They had just replaced one of the tires and it was in great condition. Not only that, but when our flight out got cancelled due to weather, they let us keep it for 2 more days.

We will rent from them from here on out. Highly recommended! Cool Breeze? Not so much. Not a trip ruiner, by any means, but there it is.

Others may have had a different experience, and that's fine, but I'm sharing for the benefit of others who are looking for some insight.

Oh boy... now I am nervous. We have always rented from Cool Breeze and usually don't have a problem. I have confirmed our reservation, and I will again (not that it will do any good). I will keep Denzel Clyne in mind if we need it.

Thanks for the tip.

I have a reservation now with Cool Breeze. Although, if the rates are better with Denzil Clyne, I may switch. I can't seem to find their website (for some reason - do they have one?). Do I have to call them or does someone know their website?

Thanks!

Don't think they have a web site, phone is 340-776-6715. We were quoted $494 for a 5 passenger Dodge Nitro for one week Feb 28-March 7.

That is interesting. I've only rented from Cool Breeze once. We arrived after hours and instead of the jeep we reserved they had our name on some other type of car. We just took one of their jeeps out of the lot anyway. That is what I reserved, and I rented from them specifically because they guaranteed us a jeep when the other companies we contacted could not. When we went back in the morning to do the paperwork they let us keep the jeep without too much pushback.

I like St. John Car Rental best because you can park in their lot.

Refresh my memory. Denzil Clyne is where exactly? And do they have parking in town?

We have been renting from Denzel Clyne for at least 13 years and have never, never had a problem with them. They have no website but you can call and ask for Brenda..she will hook you up. You can park in their lot in town, it is just past Uncle Joe's and just before Mongoose. Across from the Tortola /Virgin Gorda/ National Park dock.

Hey Guys. I have also been checking out Bouganvilla car rental on St John. I just got on their site and they have 390/wk for a Jeep Wrangler X. There is only two of us going so it should work size wise for us. I have not booked for the end of June beginning of July yet, but has anyone does business with them before? Man, I guess you have to be super careful when it comes to car rentals huh? Thanks everyone

I've rented from them twice without incident. No problems at all.

We rented from Cool Breeze on our last trip. I have to say that other than the attention we received from the young man who picked us up a the dock (wish I could remember his name right now) I was not impressed. The jeep had problems with brake lights and turn signals being out and our first day the battery died at our villa. It took a couple of hours for the same young man to come change the battery out with a good one. The woman I talked with on the phone did not seem to care about our situation where as the man who took care of the battery and brake lights was exceptionally courteous, friendly and ready to give the extra effort to take care of us.

I ended up with Cool Breeze because I waited to make my jeep reservation and L&L was out of vehicles.

Bouganvilla Car Rental

Post by ella656 »

I almost rented from Bouganvilla, but they wouldn't specify a time that I could pick the jeep up. They said it would be available "whenever the previous customer returned it."
