Hotel tax on villas?

Post by Need2GetAway »

Is there a separate hotel tax on villa rentals? I don't recall paying one in April...but now I see some saying you have to pay it.

Yes. 8% for now. It was going to go up to 10% but I think that is on hold for the time being.

The tax now is 8% and is going to 10% January 1, 2012. For any reservations in 2012, even if you have already booked, you will have to pay the increased tax, which I do not personally agree with. But that's the story we have been told.

Thought I read that the hike in tax was put on hold. Or maybe it's been on hold and going in to effect next year. Confused I guess.

We were told when we booked for 2012 that if you aren't charged up front for the increase you will have to be upcharged with your final payment when it increases to 10% in Jan.

Yes, the tax has been in place for a long time.

Some villas on VRBO will include tax in the price listed, but if you rent through a management company you pay 8% on top of your villa rate.
