I have a friend who put a deposit down on a propery on St. Thomas via VRBO. The check was cashed last week, the calendar has not been updated and the owner will not reply to phone calls or emails.

Edited to add that my friend finally heard from the owner and it looks like she is all set with her upcoming trip.

I think you'd better look on the St. John forum for your answer to this and I don't think you're going to like what you see.

Payments can now be securely made by e-check or credit card through the Home Away & VRBO sites. There are hackers and scammers out there. These are great sites to find good accommodations but be safe. Googling the owner can be a useful tool as well.
