I think we've done this before but I'm wondering if I can really make the 9:10 american flight out of St Thomas on a Sunday morning. Using people ferry out of SJ is it doable??

You'd have to be on the 6:00 ferry but I think it's doable.

6 a.m. ferry should work for your 9:10 flight.
I'm wondering if I can take the 7 a.m. ferry for a 9:40 a.m. flight on a Thursday . . . carry on only and online check-in the night before. Yes! No? Maybe?

Colleen- I'm a little nervous for you @ the 7 am ferry. Pia posted recently (I think on FB) about a 2 hour customs line (45 min with a porter)- yikes!!

But I just can't image a customs line that could be 2 hours long! The most we have ever waited was about 30 minutes because they were inspecting my baggie of St. John grill rub thinking it was something else!
Maybe we'll just miss our flight and stay a few more days~

When we were there the line was over 2 hours long, it was all the way out into the baggage claim area. Flight were delayed by hours because they could not get people through the line.
It happens!

ID take the 6 ferry to be careful. We had a 9:05 flight and it wasn't busy at all, but Iwouldn't take the chance.
