Does anyone have any news on the small plane that went down in Magen's Bay last evening?

Coast Guard Search Under Way
By Lynda Lohr — December 22, 2013

"After receiving several calls starting at 6:45 p.m. Saturday that “some type of distress” was spotted on the north side of St. Thomas, the U.S. Coast Guard and local authorities launched a search.

“We are searching to see if there’s any type of distress, but we’ve found no signs,” Coast Guard spokesman Ricardo Castrodad said at 1:45 p.m. Sunday.

He said the Coast Guard hasn’t received any reports of an overdue aircraft or anyone missing.

Castrodad urged people with any information to call the Coast Guard at 787-289-2041."

Earlier today I saw a Facebook post from someone who said she saw a plane drop into the sea in that area. I surely hope the Coast Guard will find something or prove that nothing happened.

And from Monday's newspaper, the search has been called off.

The U.S. Coast Guard called off its search off the north side of St. Thomas at around 8 p.m. Sunday after it found no signs of “distress.” The Coast Guard received several calls starting at 6:45 p.m. Saturday that “some type of distress” had been spotted.

“There is no need to continue searching,” Coast Guard spokesman Ricardo Castrodad said.

He said earlier the Coast Guard hasn’t received any reports of an overdue aircraft or of anyone missing.
