Baggage tips?

Post by northerngal »

It seems like I read a while back that locals don't tip the ferry guys, we are leaving soon , what should we do? We always have but that cash would buy me lunch!

Is there a baggage fee and then tips on top of that?

On our last trip I was informed that the ferry guy are not supposed to accept tips. We did not tip and did not observe anyone else tipping either. There was a per bag fee, I believe it was $2.00 per bag.

I saw in a post here several years ago that the ferry's contract prohibits accepting tips. We don't tip.

Interesting. Tipping not allowed? Just 2 days ago, the baggage "fee" was $4 per bag (CB to Redhook), (on top of the fare), and as we boarded, one of the luggage-loading guys not-too-gently prodded us to "remember to tip the loading boys". We didn't, thinking that 4 bucks a bag was already too much.
