Where to get Booze & Food in St John
We are renting a villa this November on St John. Can anyone tell me where to shop for food and booze? And what are the prices on beer at the grocery stores? Is it better to buy it in St Thomas at the duty free and bring over?
The rental company said they could supply us with beer didnt give us a cost.

You will find duty free on St John as well. The prices really are about the same for booze.
There are several grocery stores on the island. You may have to go to a few to get all you want as some stores carry some things and not others.
You can shop at Cost U Less in St Thomas, it is similar to a BJ's or Costco and bring it over if you are renting a car on St Thomas.
The island has wonderful affordable restaurants too, so don't buy too much food, you will want to try all the great restaurants.

Starfish Market.
Good Afternoon-
The Pine Peace Market is very nice. The Parking is a little tight, however.
We use it to fill in items that have sold out at the Starfish, like hot dog rolls.
As far as selection and convenience, and price, the Starfish Market is the Best Grocery Store on St John. The prices for Beer and Rum are virtually identical to everywhere else, in fact in July Caribe and Red Stripe were one dollar less per case than elsewhere. You can get just about anything except actual Starfish there.
I believe overall you will spend about 25% to 33% more than The Mainland.
We have not stopped on St Thomas to Grocery Shop, because our rental vehicle is usually full of luggage and bodies.
I recently bought a case of Red Stripe in Massachusetts for $25.83, which was the same as St John. I also bought Cruzan Rum for $9.99 for 750ml, which is only $1.00 more than St John.
For our family of 2 adults and 4 kids, the affordable restaurant is as elusive as seeing the Easter Rock slide into the Bay. As A Family,we do really enjoy the Banana Deck, and Ronnies Pizza and Baked in the Sun for take out. Otherwise, we eat breakfast and dinner at the villa, and bring lunch to the beach.

In addition to the markets already mentioned, if you like fish, the owners of the Fish Trap operate a small fish market right next to their restaurant. We've gotten some good tuna and wahoo there in the past.
There is also a small shop called the Simple Feast located just before the Westin. They have a small selection of vegetables and dry goods, and also sell prepared foods such as roasted herb-garlic chickens and bbq ribs. They have nice sandwiches there too. They also have wine, but we think they are overpriced for that.
If you are picking up your rental car on STT, we thought the Marina Market in Red Hook had a much better selection of fruits, breads, and vegetables than what we could find on STJ. They have a nice wine stock too.

The next place we stop at is the Food Center just on the outskirts of Red Hook. This is a nice size grocery story that the “Locals” shop at. This store has my “all-time-favorite” food – live Caribbean Lobsters in a tank.

On the Coral Bay side you have Love City Mini-mart and Lilly's Deli at the Cocolobo Center. Both will surprise you on selection and price, though neither can come close to Starfish for selection. There is another market near Callabash Boom, but last year they were poorly stocked.
When you find yourself in a hole.... quit digging.
