How are those Mosquitos?

Post by Barb Y »

Does anyone know if the mosquitos have died down since the "swarm"? How about the Sahara dust? Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

We have been here for seven days and the mosquitos have left the premises. The sahara dust is gone as well. The weather is beautiful!!!!!

This is a good link to the CDC in which ones work. I just bought 100% lemon eucalyptus oil as I am trying to get away from DEET. I am going to add it to liquid soap too.

This link below is a nice summary.

mrsb,
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but are you diluting the lemon eucalyptus oil in water or putting it in a spray bottle? I'm interested in trying that. Good idea. Thanks for sharing all of your research. I used DEET the entire time! I worked outside at home yesterday and received 15 mosquito bites. This sounds like a possible alternative for me even at home!

I have to look up a recipe to see how I can dilute it. It is very fragrant to say the least but to me more tolerable than citronella. I was thinking too that I can put it on my pulse points like you would perfume and set it out around the villa. Last year we went after St John had about 8" of rain, did the Reef Bay hike and if we stopped the skeeters were on us. Bugs just love me. I must be sweet  We were spraying ourselves at least every 1/2 hour with Off. We went throgh all three cans left by previous guests. I thought I can at least give the lemon Eucalyptus a try.

edited: there is a product called Repel that is based on this.

We used both Repel and OFF the week before last during "the great St. John mosquito storm of '07". I think Repel worked better, but we still got bites. We even dosed up on Vitamin B real good the preceding month as well!

Those skeeters are vampires I say!!
