What do you miss?

Post by Bug »

What do you miss the most about STJ when your not there? I'll start:

Waking up to the Bananaquits on the deck

Shrimp at Woody's

Bushwacker's made by Guido at the Beach Bar

Dreads

Seeing Lizards and Hermit Crabs and Donkeys and Cows (all on the road of course)

A friendly smile and being acknowledged from everyone you pass.

The sound of the Frogs putting me to sleep

Seeing Lindy's smiling face - I'm not being sarcastic, Lindy makes my heart smile because he is always smiling!

Dinner (don't matter what) at Shipwreck's Landing.

Laying on a chair on Vie's beach

Having that magical moment when you first spy that turtle or ray or whatever it is you spy

The pure contentment I feel the entire time I am on STJ

Ok, now it's your turn........

XOXO

The feel of the breeze in my hair as I drive the Northshore Road, especially when I dip down into the shade of the dense trees.

The night sounds.

The color of bougainvillea everywhere.

It being okay to have frozen drinks in the early afternoon.

A chair in the sun on Maho with a good book and my iPod, toes buried in the sand, waves lapping a few feet away.

Caribbean lobster, fried mahi-mahi, peas 'n rice, and plantains.

Fresh pineapple by the ocean.

The bustle of Cruz Bay in the early morning.

The calm of being underwater with no sound but my own breathing in my ears.

The peace that I only feel when I am THERE.

Living in Florida can be so much like the Caribbean – but there is one thing that I miss. OK, two things – cheap booze and the mountains. There is nothing like seeing the mountains popping up out of the turquoise water.

Well, it's all so recent for me, and I miss just about everything...

How the water is so blue
Everything moving in slow motion
Afternoon drinks and snacks (tuna bites) at The Beach Bar
Woody's pasta salad
Trying to figure out which one's Chad and which one's Todd
Chilling with a drink at Quiet Mon
Waking up to the sound of the ocean
Taking showers outside
Floating on the ocean on a pool noodle
All the nice people
Driving to the top of a mountain and seeing nothing but water

* Driving! LOVE driving there with the ipod blasting.

* My toes in the sand at any beach but particularly maho & francis

* Friends - we usually travel with friends and it is one of the few times that we just STOP and enjoy each other without the real world intervening.

* The smell of Uncle Joe's when he's firing it up

* Smiling

* Conrad Sutton - maybe I am crazy but I love the guy & am always happy to see him and say hi.

* The ability to mix tang & orange rum, hop in the pool, and just float around until I am unable to get out of the pool on my own power

* The knowledge that every trip I discover something new & think "I can't believe I just found this out after X number of trips!"

* The natural, pure beauty. There is nothing quite like the view from a studio at Maho ...

* The spectacular views
* Waking up, drinking my tea and enjoying the views
* Being able to walk anywhere with your beer in Cruz Bay
* Driving with your beer as long as your seat belt is on :)
* The amazing feeling that I feel - content and totally 100% at home!

The simplicity of enjoying just being.

And I always feel beautiful on STJ- no matter what the mirror shows me. There's something about a sunkissed tan, messy just-out-of-the-ocean hair and flip flops that make a person feel comfortable in their own skin.

Lysa C you nailed it right on the head.

**I love the fact that I am a different human being on STJ-- one that is hard to hold on to when I am back in the "real world"-- but still struggle to.
** I love that my hair gets crazy curly and looks gorgeous without having to do a thing to it.
**I love the way the warm, humid air smacks me in the face as I get off the plane.
** I love getting one of the few parking spaces at Jumbie.
** I love floating in my Caribbean "Bathtub"
** I love driving a Jeep with the windows down.
** I love getting my own Peace Pop out the back room freezer at Skinny Legs.
** I love laughing at the "Dip" signs in Coral bay
** I love watching the Mongoosedem steal food out of other people's back packs.
**I love driving along the North Shore road any time of the day or night.
** i love the fact that STJ has brought me closer to friends and family and has allowed me to make new friends and to meet people like yourselves in cyberspace who share a similar love of this wonderful island!!
*Another fine scatterbrained production

The locals we've made friends with.
Burgers seasoned with tall tales and Caribbean breezes.
The peace and tranquility.
When you find yourself in a hole.... quit digging.
