Bug - I can't tell you much about Cabo but good friends of ours (no kids) go every year in October. They stay at the Marguis Los Cabos. They said the water is so rough that you're not allowed in. So I guess it's just the pool and hot tub.

I've been to Puerto Vallarta 5 times so if you ever have a question let me know.

It's been on my list of places to go for a long time. I just never want to do that long flight from VA. It's the marlin capital, so great deep sea fishing...lots of party places and great resorts. The weather is good 330 days a year. I learned that from the Travel channel when they did a show on the top 10 Mexican Beach resorts. Cabo had 2 or 3 of the top 10. If the time share is "on the house" GO!

Bug,
We went to Cabo once and enjoyed it. We stayed at Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos. It was a relaxing vacation, but it is very different from St. John. The water is a deep blue, and is rough, like Jerseyboy said. The sand is darker and course too. The weather was perfect though, and there are lots of very nice resorts. I would be happy to try to answer any specific questions that you have.

These impressions of Cabo so old (and so am I now that I think about how long ago this was) that it may be hopelessly outdated and mostly useless to you, but it gives me an excuse to post a couple of pics and be nostalgic.

We went to Cabo in Jan. 1988. There were still chickens running around in the streets and not even many decent restaurants and only 2 places in town had the satellite TV signal for the Super Bowl which was in San Diego that year, only 800 miles due north.

If you can appreciate the desert environment, it was beautiful. On the Pacific side of “the arch” the water is pretty rough with pounding waves and strong undertow and you probably have to go offshore into the Sea of Cortez for any decent snorkeling. The water is not Caribbean warm.

The whales were migrating at that time of the year, so that was nice to watch from shore, plus we went on a “sunset sail” and a huge whale surfaced about 25 feet from the boat.

We stayed at the Hotel Solmar, which last time I looked I think has been converted into condos or timeshares. It’s the low rise place right at the tip of the Baja, so you are able to see sunrise and sunset from their beach which is pretty cool.

These are photos of 8x10 photos taken on that beach that I have hanging in the living room.
