Where Do You Get The Time?

Post by Chris »

My first visit to the OT forum and I'm reading all the posts.
Someone goes to Africa. Someone goes to Nola. Someone goes to every Bruce concert. Someone goes to Switzerland. And you (we) all go to STJ.
The money isn't a problem (well, it sorta is...two kids in college), but the real issue is finding the TIME to to go on trips. How do you guys do it?? Seriously.

Well, I guess it is like anything else in life, if you want to do it, you make the time, you make it happen. Plain and simple. You find a way.

I get 5 weeks vacation...so that is where my time comes from. :)

I get 5 weeks as well but my husband only gets 3, so we take a lot of long weekends. If I leave on Thursday afternoon and come back on Sunday, that is a vacation for me.

Linne, who went to Africa, has an edge over us all. She is European and they have much better vacation benefits than those of us in the states.

I get five weeks of vacation a year, John gets six. And we use every day of it! We calculated that we spent exactly one month on St. John in 2007. Maybe it's time to look at time shares... :D

We used to get 4 weeks, but with new jobs we're down to 3 weeks.

We love St. John, but visit every 3 - 4 years; gives us time to explore other places - this year it was Colorado and the Mediterranean.

Also do a lot of long weekends visiting family/friends that are reasonable driving distances from home.

And, yes, money always factors into the equation, without kids in college.

Bruce only tours every couple of years and you never know when the last show will be for me and him so I gotta go as often as I can possibly manage ;) And fit the vacations in as well! I do what I gotta do the rest of the year!

I don't have nearly enough time to do all of the things that I want to do. There was a time earlier in my life (gad, my life was so simple then! ), when I had a whole lot less money and a whole lot more time and my life was full of adventures. My family and I are so much more secure now, but sometimes I do long for yesterday.

Lex - you longing for yesterday made me think of this song by the Beatles....

Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away
Now it look as though they're here to stay
Oh, I believe in yesterday

Suddenly, I'm not half the man I used to be
There's a shadow hanging over me
oh, yesterday came suddenly

Why she had to go I don't know, she wouldn't say
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday

Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
oh, I believe in yesterday

Why she had to go I don't know, she wouldn't say
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday

Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
oh, I believe in yesterday, Mm

We all get 24 hours every day. Rich or poor, the one and only thing we have an equal amount of is time. What you end up doing with it is your choice. No one ever went to the grave wishing that they had spent more time at the office.

Amen JT. I am trying to convince the hubby in addition to June of 09 we really NEED a trip in 08 to STJ.

Of course we are doing the disney for the kiddos in March of this year. But I am willing to trade August in the outer banks for November in St. John. Seems fair! :)

We have the money and the time. He's just too sensible for our own good!

I dont have nearly enough time or money...but I do have two trips for 2008 planned. It's called prioities! New windows for the house? H*ll no. Bathrooms re-modeled? Forget it. Pay off the kitchen re-model job? Nah.
Go to STJ twice in one year? You bet!

4 weeks vacation. That is one reason why I keep my current job and don't try for a new one. I would lose the vacation time.
