DESERT WILDFLOWER PICTURES!!
Oh boy! I can't wait to see them! Get on it girl!Agent99 wrote:Just gorgeous CG!! I was able to tag along with 86 who had a conference in Scottsdale last week. We managed to take a ride up into the Tonto National Forest. I'll download my photos when I get a second today and put them up. They too are having a great spring of wildflowers. I wish we had more time to see them.
I think the most amazing part was getting out of the car in Coyote Canyon and being immersed in the most beautiful scent! The air was entirely perfumed by flowers. But it wasn't overpowering... it was just .. uh.. perfectBarb Y wrote:Wow! They are beautiful. What a great day you must have had surrounded by all that beauty.
Lovely pictures CG! Who knew deserts could be so full of colors!
Speaking about blooming desert plants, have you ever seen the night blooming cactus, that you could see in late April or May in the Virgins? I do believe there are some at Lind Point trail (at least the book St John off the beaten track" sais that).
The so called snake cactus only blooms one night and only at night. The flower is up to 1 ft in diameter and is just beautiful. Here is a picture of the cactus in Virgon Gorda. You take a flashlight and go out when it's dark (evening is ok, it doesn't have to be night).

Wow great pics CG.
We just got back from AZ, split time between Phoenix/Scottsdale and Tucson, with family for Easter. Our 6th time out there, did little touring this time, was going to go out to ghost town turned artist enclave Jerome AZ but bagged it for quality pool and book reading time. Can heartily recommend the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in north Tucson – way nice property, good service etc.
Man, it was so bright there we felt like hibernating critters emerging from the den. Saw 3 clouds in a week. Made us realize how GRAY the winter has been in NJ. Little snow, but lots of 43 degree rainy days, or real windy. I know I cant really complain though compared to you folks in the upper mid-west. Yikes.
The sun never felt so good, but it is a full time job staying hydrated in that low humidity environment if you do any activity at all.
Some pix of wild flowers and big ass cactus in Sonoran Desert around Tucson.

Super nice pix JMQ! I haven't been to Jerome for probably 30 years - eek! How could it possibly be that long! I loved Jerome, in fact, my hubby did an oil painting of the Jerome Fire Dept. after we got home. It wasn't so much of an artist community back then, but it was definitely "ghost town-ish" even though folks were still living there. Now that it's an artist community I think I need to plan another trip to visit again!
We spent time up in Jerome a couple of years ago and really liked being there. One of my favorite parts of that trip was the time spent at Wukoki outside of Flagstaff.
The memory of that place really stays with me deep:
It's one of the few ruins that we were permitted to actually go into and we didn't see another person the whole time we were there.

Indeed, LOTSA great stuff to see in AZ.
Just outside Tucson is a great zoo/museum hybrid called the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum with mostly outdoor exhibits.
We’ve been there twice and it deserves its listing on NYTimes Top 10 museums soon after it opened.

The other thing we considered if we had more time in Tucson was Mt. Kitts Observatory. They have a program you go up for sunset and dinner, then star gazing thru their telescopes. Probably would’ve been in the upper 40s low 50s at night up there.
Also in southern AZ you have Tombstone, Kartchner Caverns (impressive - http://www.explorethecaverns.com/), and copper mining town Bisbee.
Last trip in 04 we did the northern part of the state - Sedona/Winslow/Canyon deChelly/Monument Valley/Flagstaff loop.
