trip for newbies in Jan.

Post by Wanda Creech »

OK forum I need your help for my friends. Two couples are going in Jan. and staying at the Westin. Some meetings to attend, but they are staying a week.
My husband and I go in May or June, and we only eat at The Lime Inn and the Beach Bar and cook at the villa. We have tried others but these are our favorite.
I know the beaches will be more crowed. What time would they need to get there to get a parking spot ? What are the Two nicest or best places to eat.
I have also heard that in the winter the north side might be rough.
I have given them all my books to read butI knew I could get the best answers here and any other suggestions.
Thanks

You've got my vote for The Lime Inn too...Love love love it there...from the food to the service... We enjoy Cafe Roma as well...good italian food, service is good too...I've never been to STJ in January...so I'm not sure about the beaches...

I hope that they are renting a Jeep. That is key to really enjoying and exploring St. John IMHO. January can bring rough water along the northshore but not always. Even if it's rough on the northshore it's usually pretty calm at Maho and Frances. Vie's Beach is another good place if the northshore is rough and of course Salt Pond if you're up for the hike down and up.

We love Uncle Joe's Bar-B-Q, Cafe Roma and Rhumblines. It's fun to splurge on a night at ZoZo's or Chateau Bordeaux and we love Morgan's Mango.

I was going to suggest Morgan's Mango. And I haven't been there yet, but all my friends love La Tapa.

Best time for the beaches is early. Get to any one before 8:00 am and they'll have it all to themselves.

I would second (or third) Morgan's Mango. We have always enjoyed Rhumb Lines and Joe's BBQ!

We went down last December, and the beaches were pretty rough (especially Trunk!). But another poster had mentioed Francis and Maho - I agree, they were calm in comparison. And, if they rent a Jeep, they can always head over to Salt Pond which should be calm.

Oh, and if they do get a Jeep...We really liked Aqua Bistro down in Coral Bay. Very good food, plus the circular bar there in front...They'll meet a very diverse group of people at that bar, from Wall Street Bankers (well, maybe not these days!) to Salty Dogs just off their boats. Great place!!!

Soxfan22 is so right, Aqua Bistro in Coral Bay is great and, of course, Skinny Legs is a most do in Coral Bay.

I'm not sure how much rougher the north side beaches are in January, but it was pretty calm at Trunk last January 11.
