Re: Bookend hotel / shopping for basics
Landing at 10:30PM, I think your best bet is to stay at either of the 2 Best Western's by the airport (BW Carib is closer, BW Emerald Beach is nicer), or Island Beachcomber which is between the two. All are within walking distance off of the airport access road - there's a sidewalk. If all 3 are boo...

Re: st. john for my 60th
There's no one website that will list all of your villa choices... Some villas are listed on multiple sites, some only on one or two... If it's next month that you're traveling (and not February of next year), you might want to call some management companies to save some time, then check out the pho...

Diving/Snorkeling Beanies
I've been told by my dermatologist that I need to start wearing head protection while I'm snorkeling... It's the price I'm paying for having too much fun in the sun when I was a kid, and the thinning crop of hair I inherited from my maternal grandfather... So I'm looking at Diving Beanies as my solu...

Good news: I'm going to be here on St. John when Sandy comes ashore!
Bad news: My home in Maryland is on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay and I'm not there to batten down the hatches...

A Bit of Advice on Your Rental Vehicle
Yes we all walk around the vehicle with the rental agent checking the dings and scratches, and we check the gas gauge to make sure we've got what they say we have... But DO also check to make sure the trunk contains everything you'll need to change a flat tire, especially if you've rented on St. Tho...

Re: Good Morning From Coral Bay!!!
Pic is from the front porch of Reef Madness...
The sun is setting now, and it's just as gorgeous over Coral Bay as it was this morning...
Snorkled Maho this afternoon...
Saw turtles, rays, a billion fry, and a school of at least 2 dozen tarpon...
The water is SO WARM!!!

Re: Never been to St. John and need advice
We stayed in Eden's Whim with 4 other couples a few years ago and loved it. Lots of room to spread out, and plenty of spaces to come together... 5 bedrooms in 3 different buildings, pool & hot tub, within your budget...

Re: 1 night stay in STT
Best Western Emerald Beach and the Green Iguana are both good options.
Last year I spent a night at Two Sandals, a little B&B near Red Hook and liked it a lot. It's got a view of the Red Hook harbor and is really close to all of the restaurants in that area.
