Re: Ditleff Point Snorkeling
After driving by the huge gate to Ditleff Pt 3 times (I was looking for something similar to the small chained gate in an older version of 'Off the Beaten Path'), we went in from Klein bay and swam over. It is a long swim, but a great snorkel. We did see an eagle ray. I think the lovely stairs are o...

Ditleff Point Snorkeling
Hello all! We are visiting St. John soon, have been several times, but we have never snorkeled near Ditleff Point. I'm confused about the access, so I am asking the experts! Is there public access? I do have the books by Pam Gaffin and Gerald Singer, but I still want to hear from others. Thanks!

Re: Hikes and ruins
Drunk Bay. Agree with above post. A fun spot to tromp around.
If your daughter does enjoy snorkeling, blue cobblestone beach is a great snorkel.

Re: Hikes and ruins
We have also hiked the Margaret Hill trail (lovely view at the top) and the America Hill trail (ruins, with another nice view, although we did encounter a ton of bees). We have not done all of the Johnny horn trail, but we do like the Brown Bay trail, and I do not think it is an all day hike. You ca...

The easiest hike is the Cinnamon Bay Nature Trail, but not the Cinnamon Bay Trail. We do this hike every time and love it. Brown Bay is easy, but this one is easier. The Reef Bay hike is not bad if you do it with the park and get a ride back to town on the boat. Catherineburg ruins are pretty cool. ...

We stayed at Maho for a few days once and we rented kayaks from them. We went over to whistling cay (I believe that is the name) left the kayaks on shore and snorkled around the cay. It was a great day. They did warn us about a current there, but we had did not have a problem. I don't believe you ha...

Hey Minde - We too are in western NY and we bought our kayaks used from Mountainman in Old Forge NY. We bought them in late September 2-3 years ago. They have an end of season sale and sell much of their inventory. We have 2 Pungos a 120 and a 140. If you are interested in that type of route, look a...

Oh Rob - You are not a dummy, other issues may have distracted you. We were not charged for our checked luggage on our return. DH had grabbed a box pre check-in, so he checked a box for free. Had I known prior to checking in........ Oh well. I already had enough to carry on, but DH grabbed another 3...

Just an aside on this...... We did not pre-print our return boarding passes. Had I checked in in advance I would have paid for my checked luggage because with USAir you save $5.00 when you pay in advance. When we checked in at STT they did not charge us anything for our checked luggage. Not a big de...

Agree with all that it can be a hot hike. We always make a trip over to Drunk Bay like Captkirk says. You pass blue cobblestone beach on the way and we thought the snorkeling there was excellent. Way to the right on that beach. So - take your snorkeling gear, see how you feel at blue cobblestone, le...
