Re: Trip Report August 16-26th, "Bliss" Cruz Views Condo #1
Joe, if you want to rent a car for a day on St. John be sure to make your reservation in advance. There is a limited number of rental cars. If you wait til the day you want the car, there may not be one available. A note about renting on St. Thomas. In addition to the cost of renting the car, you wi...

Re: Cell Phone Service
Sorry to hear you have Verizon. Verizon does not have a presence on the island and thus they charge roaming on all calls. However, you can text without roaming charges applying. Cell phone reception is spotty at best. I don't believe the Westin has good cell service. The towers are under-powered and...

Re: Favorite Gear and Island Supplies?
A note about sunscreen. You definitely should use it. But please use the spread on type rather than the spray. Some charter boat operators don't allow spray sunscreen because it makes the deck slippery and stains vinyl. Also, it is a real drag to be down wind from someone using spray. More of this s...

Re: Favorite Gear and Island Supplies?
Don't get hung up on getting the best brand name gear. I live on island and snorkel in a t-shirt to prevent sunburn. I do recommend bringing your own mask and tube for sure. You can rent fins cheaply and they take a lot of space in luggage. Unless you are an experienced snorkeler and plan to free di...

Re: passenger ferry rate increase
To Pete, you are not comparing apples to apples. In NYC people who can't afford a cab (and I guess a large percentage of the population can't) have alternative transportation methods that are cheaper than a cab. They take a bus or the subway. People who live on St. John have no alternative. They mus...

Re: passenger ferry rate increase
Dreamshark, please reread the article. The rate change will only be the $1.00 each way for non residents. No other aspect of the rate structure will change.

Re: Restaurant suggestions for late September?
The Terrace is new. It recently opened in the location of the old Stone Terrace. Motu is new and is located down the street. Cafe Roma had a fire and probably won't be rebuilt by September. Many restaurants take a break in September to vacation and/or spruce up the place for the coming season. If yo...

Re: Hummingbird House Bordeaux Mtn
Bordeaux Mt. is the right place. It is always cooler than the lower elevations. Don't know anything about the house. I live on Bordeaux and do not have air conditioning because it is not needed. This house has the best ocean view which equals ocean breezes.
