2muchsnow on st John - day 5 - soggy (not the bar)

Post by 2muchsnow »

woke to grey and threatening skies. in an effort to find some sun and or better weather packed up and headed to the south shore or the east end or where the weather would be nicer. No such luck. Drove out to east end where we had never been before in previous trips. Pondered the mangrove snorkel at princess. (anyone done it? ) but weather was still grey. Drove back along the NS to see if surf had come down. Ended up at hawksnest as the only ones there. Figured a grey day there still beats anything. Started to sprinkle. We all decided to hang out in the water since we we getting wet anyway. Then the rumbling began. Getting closer and closer. Then the heavens opened up and lightning was everywhere. Opting to live to beach another day, decided to bug out back to villa with the hopes of a later return later. But continued to downpour till late afternoon. Went to town did some shopping at st John spice, mongoose, etc.

All in all still a good day, (32 @ home). Fingers crossed for at least a few more rays of sun tomorrow.

Hoping the wind this morning is blowing it all away.

2muchsnow....we understand the wet trip. We were there 2 years ago when it rained forever! Roads were washed out, school closed...but like you, we still had fun. This years trip was much drier so we had a chance to try more things and we did the mangrove snorkel at Princess Bay. It is a lot of fun. Very, very shallow. Such a cute nursery of all the reef fish you see. There were a few baracudas hanging out and the occasional passing of some jacks. We will do it again the next time we are there. Just a very different underwater view.

We had some rain last week when we were there, too- but I always say, a rainy day on the rock still beats any day at home! Kind of nice to just sit and watch the cisterns fill ;-) Keep enjoying!
