How long from Caneel to Honeymoon ?

Post by PaminMaine »

My husband has arthritis in his lower back and I am wondering how long this hike is ? Any info on trail, hills etc would be great as well. Thanks !

The walk from Caneel is about a 5 minute walk. It is relatively a flat and easy trail to walk. Last year when we walked this trail, there was an iguana that hung out on the trail watching people pass by. :)

It's been a few years since I've done it, but I'm thinking more like 20 minutes...25 minutes if you start counting the time when you leave the parking lot...?

9 minutes according to the 20 year olds in my family who time it and grumble the whole way as they get stuck carrying the coolers :)

I agree with Pia... probably around 10 minutes or so. Easy paved walk. At least I think it was paved the whole way. Maybe a little slope downward to the beach but certainly not what I'd call hilly.

I usually notice time so one would think I could easily answer your question after walking this route 3 times last week... NOT!
I asked my husband and we came up with maybe a little more than 1/2 mile distance taking us (not twenty somethings) about 15 minutes from the parking lot to the east end of the beach... best guess, final answer!
The trail is actually a flat and smooth dirt road near the beach and paved up and down a small hill through Caneel. I carried a backpack and he had snorkel gear. Nothing like Salt Pond Hill!!!
Hope you and hubby get there; it is lovely!

The beach end half is not paved, only from the parking lot to the end of the last row of rooms.

haha NOT 20 somethings here either!

Forgot to ask about parking this year. We usually arrive at the beach early 8-9ish.. Will the parking lot have an attendant to give a ticket?? I guess I am unsure of the process. I do know that it is 20 dollars (?) , and I will be comped if I spend that at the bar...( oh..... if we must... )
I don't want to park and come back to find the jeep towed .......

If there is no attendant, you won't be able to get in as there is a gate across the road that is manned by security.

When we stayed there, there was always someone there early. My mom entered on foot around sunrise and encountered a guard at the gate. I would think there would a guard at 8am.

I also agree with Pia, I'm not sure if you would call it a hike, it is a nice walk with a beautiful beach as your reward!

I walked it, photographed it, and mapped it. Here it is.

There's a booth there now selling drinks and snacks, so no need to lug a cooler, though they may not carry adult beverages.

You don't even need to park in Caneel, right across Caneel's entrance on North Shore Rd is parking for 2 to 3 cars and just let security know you are hiking to Honeymoon and you don't pay the 20.00
