OFF TOPIC- Other sunsets

Post by sea-nile »

As some of you may know, I am a sunset addict (sunrises are cool too).

Anyway, does anyone have sunsets from places other than the USVI, like where they live or other places that they have visited?

Here is me last night at a place that is on one of our lakes. It was a spectacular sunset. I like to go there and pretend that those hills in the background are STT and I am on STJ. Never mind the brown/green water. It is still beautiful. 8)

Sunrise/Sunset

Post by Beachboy »

Sea- Nile

I too love sunsets and sunrises. I have to admit I see more sunsets.
I have been very fortunate to have traveled quite a bit, and have gotten to see some spectacular scenes with the sun rising over the Alps in Switzerland, and sunset over Rome.
Given that to an extent all sunsets and sunrises are special, I have to say that while I love what I see in the islands, the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets are in Africa. You might remember that in most movies filmed in Africa they highlight sunsets, but the camera can't capture how truly spectacular they are.
I know visiting Africa isn't necessarily on many peoples itinerary, if you love sunsets and sunrises then that may be worth a very special trip.

My best sunset picture comes in a progression of 4 shots. This was Thanksgiving Day '06, taken from our friends' patio in San Clemente, CA.

Nice. Here are a few.

A couple from Lake Geneva

And one from Maine - tide running out in Kennebunk.

Those are beautiful! Thank you guys for sharing! Now I feel like I need to go out at sunset to take pics! Maybe tomorrow night if I get home from work before sunset!

The first one was taken with my phone so I don't know how good it will come out but it was right before Jimmy Buffett came on at the 2006 Jazz Fest. It had rained and right before he was set to come out the setting sun came out as if the gods knew New Orleans needed it's Buffett. It was the first Jazz Fest that followed Katrina and it was a healing time for alot of us...

Sanibel Island Causeway. Florida. July 2007

This sunset was when a crazy storm was rolling in.

Laura,
Where exactly in Hawaii were those taken?

Thanks!

I took those at Anaehoomalu Bay on the Big Island, most people just call it A-bay to save you from trying to pronounce that tongue twister....

It is on the Kohala Coast. The water before the palm trees is a huge ancient fish pond that fronts a beautiful beach. As you might imagine, it is THE place in Hawaii for sunset shots.

Love hawaii but gotta say now that we have been to STJ, it will be a long time before we make it back to Hawaii as we love St John so much.
