Luke is 13 months old and has Alpha One Antitrypsin Deficiency which is a type of liver disease. He is hospitalized down in Florida with what they think is a gallbladder infection. He has ascites which is fluid in the belly that the doctors estimate is @ 3-4 lbs of fluid. They are giving him pain meds and then will give him a couple of IV diuretics to get rid of the fluid. Also, some IV antibiotics to fight the infection. He will be in the hospital for at least three days.
Luke will need a liver transplant in the future so I guess this is just a bump in the long road ahead but I hate that he has to go through all this. He has already had 5 hospital stays in his short little life.
I will keep Luke in my prayers tonight and for the forseable future. Please let us know when this crisis has passed, and don't hesitate to reach out in the future when things get rough.
We are all here for you.
oh wow--keep the faith--there are tons of miracles out there--and we know so much more about these things than we did years ago--really--my daughter (now14) would be dead if she were born a decade before she was--I will keep your little guy in my prayers--
< leaving on the 22nd of march...but too lame to figure out the ticker thing again!>
Thoughts and prayers from me too. Hopefully he will be too little to remember it all and will be completetly cured by the time he can. Yes, keep the faith.
