GoPro Wreck of the Rhone March 2014

Post by RickG »

I finally got around to editing some of my gopro video from our March trip. I was happy with our snorkel of the Wreck of the Rhone, even if it was swarmed with divers! Good water clarity.

The gopro is stupid easy to use. I haven't moved on from the default settings, too busy sailing and playing to spend time on it. I picked up "The Bobber" floating handle that works well in the water.

Short version, goes from the deep end to the shallow end:

Long version, shallow to deep, then back again:

Rick, thanks for posting, this looks amazing. Did you sail here yourself to snorkel? I'm wondering if it would be possible to make this part of a bvi day trip when I return in November, but I'm not sure who would take us here.

Rick: Great Rhone snorkeling videos! How deep did you dive to get those? That shot over the chimney was very cool. I had a buddy from college visit us in May of last year, and he was up to revisit (for both of us; he from the late '70's, I from ten years ago) the RMS Rhone. We used the St. John to Tortola ferry to get to the BVI and back, and booked with Blue Water Divers on Tortola (http://www.bluewaterdiversbvi.com), who would have been happy to include snorkelers at a lower charge. As it happened that day, the two of us were their only customers, but they headed out nonetheless, to their credit. We had a unique and very personalized through the wreck dive experience (scuba), with the Captain serving as our dive master once he (more accurately, we) had secured a mooring. After the dive, we asked if we could extend to include a snorkel at the Indians; I forget the surcharge, but it was modest. We even made the last ferry back to St. John! The logistics of using the ferries, local taxis, and Tortola dive boats are more complex, but can save you money compared to dedicated charters, and might well be less crowded.

All the best,

Kevin

Thanks Kevin, hadn't thought of that! I see that Low Key allows snorkelers to tag along for a modest fee. I wonder if I might also be able to gather enough people for a charter.
